教學目標
Students are expected to (1) familiarize the course texts as a critical reader and thinker, (2) participate the class discussion and individual/group work actively, and by the end of the academic year, (3) have an overall understanding of the convention and the new development of English prose. Students are strongly encouraged to share their thoughts with class members and to discuss any learning difficulties with the instructor; they are also welcomed to bring in or refer to additional books, newspaper/magazine articles, movies, or any other information that may be relevant to what are being discussed in class.

教學目標
This course aims to help students develop effective paragraph and short essay writing skills. Students will write something every week in response to a writing or reading task assigned according to the course topic. By the end of the academic year, students are expected to be able to (1) develop and organize their ideas while producing accurate and appropriate writing on a selected range of topics/modes, (2) analyze and present a sustainable argument with a critical eye in the respect of the content, the organization, the sentence structure/grammar, the vocabulary/spelling, the unity/cohesion, and the format of their writing, (3) improve their writing skills through revising, editing, and correcting their own work as well as providing feedback to each other’s work.
